Poplarville Chamber’s BOOBerry Festival Wins MML Excellence Award for City Spirit
The Poplarville Area Chamber of Commerce proudly announces that the BOOBerry Festival, an event co-chaired by Katrina Mizell and Nikki Main, has received the prestigious Excellence Award for City Spirit from the Mississippi Municipal League (MML). This accolade honors the festival’s outstanding contribution to fostering a vibrant community spirit.
Katrina Mizell, co-chair of the festival, shared her enthusiasm about the event, saying, "My favorite aspect of the BOOBerry Festival is the joy it brings to families. We've found the perfect blend of new and old Halloween traditions that put a smile on the faces of both children and adults.”
The BOOBerry Festival, inspired by Poplarville’s heritage as “The Blueberry Capital of Mississippi,” has quickly become a cornerstone event. With a mix of engaging activities and traditional Halloween festivities, the festival encapsulates the spirit of community and celebration.
Carol Williams, a Poplarville Chamber Board Member, shared her excitement about the unexpected award win: “Stumbling upon the MML Excellence awards was such a fluke. I was scrolling through Facebook and saw that nominations were closing at 5 pm on the day I found the nomination. Being a retired marketing teacher, I knew how to assemble packets together and I had lots of photos of the event, so I started the process. I never dreamed we would win but what I did know is that Katrina and Nikki deserved recognition.”
Katrina Mizell and Nikki Main will accept the award on behalf of the festival at the 93rd MML Conference to be held in Biloxi this June. Their leadership and dedication have been instrumental in the festival’s success and in earning this esteemed recognition.
